The 2007 Red Bull Air Races

This year, the Red Bull Air Races came to London. The chosen location was Greenwich, close to the Dome. The weather, given how rubbish it has been for the last few months, was actually kind enough, at least it didn't rain!

Paul Bonhomme, a Brit...., was favoured to win, and the 35 thousand crowd were certainly hoping to see him do just that.... Sadly, whilst he did reach the final, he was beaten by Mike Mangold (a yank)in a damn fine display of, what can only be describe as sheer lunacy that is, Air Racing for the 21st Century.

The first pilot barrels through the quadro.
Each run was two laps of the circuit.
with good times being around 1 minute 20 odd seconds
At this location, it is a great spectator sport, as from all the grandstands you can see nearly all the course.
Meet Paul Bonhomme
This is a Zivko Edge 540, 344Hp and only 530Kgs, these things are quick!
Some lunch time fun, did you spot it?? This helicopter is upside down!
After lunch, things got serious, with head to head quarter finals, semi's and the finals.
Paul Bonhomme pulling 8g or more through the quadro!
Nigel Lamb, another Brit, racing for Team Breitling
Kirby Chambliss going hell for leather!!
Paul's final run
This was shot as he pulled through the half cuban to start his second lap...and was probably where he lost the second that Mike beat him by...
and Mike was absolutely screaming....
If you are offered tickets, take them!!
